CHAPTER 16
A ustin paced around the guest entertainment centre the next day at Lifeâs a Pitch, his thinking cap on, tapping a pen against his chin as he brainstormed various ideas. âWhat aboutâ¦â he said, ready to suggest an additional idea, but stopping short, dismissing the notion before it was fully formed in his head.
âNo idea is a bad idea!â Ben prompted, applying a fried egg to his latest camperâs egg, sausage & cheese breakfast bap. âThere you go,â Ben said, handing the item over with a smile. âAnd youâll find napkins and condiments and such on the worktop behind you.â
The camper, a red-haired chap with a ruddy complexion who was dressed for a day hiking through the wilds, paused. âI liked the first suggestion, actually,â he said, having clearly been listening in to Ben and Austinâs high-powered executive breakfast meeting.
Enthused, Austin approached the attentive camper. âWhich one?â he asked. âMusic Isle or Camp Rock?â
The camper considered both options, weighing up the merits of each. âUhm, no. It was another one, I think?â
Austin checked his clipboard, which contained all of his previous notes, along with a doodle of his vision board. âRock the Rock?â he asked, flicking his eyes up for a moment.
âYeah, thatâs the one,â the earwigging camper confirmed, now applying a generous application of wonderful HP Sauce to complement his lovely breakfast bap. âAfter all,â he added, qualifying his thought process, âyouâre on a rock in the middle of the Irish Sea, and youâre going to rock the audience. So it works on multiple levels.â
Austin was thrilled to receive such a glowing endorsement of his clever wordplay.
âYouâre correct. It does work on multiple levels,â Austin pointed out, glancing over to Ben for final approval. âSo, should we proceed on that basis?â
Ben played the words âRock the Rockâ back to himself in his head several times. âI do like it, butâ¦â
âBut?â Austin asked.
âIf the headline act is a country and western singer, are we really rocking the audience, so to speak?â Ben put forth. âYou know, because itâs country, rather than rock.â
The camper, who was by now enjoying his first bite, held a finger aloft as a placeholder until he could finish and speak freely again. âAh, but youâve plenty of other acts performing throughout the day, right? I imagine you could probably get away with the name, as not all of them are country, are they? Or are they?â he said, once chewing and swallowing had been successfully completed. âAnyway, what do I know?â he added rhetorically.
âEminently logical, my good man, and I very much like the way you think,â Austin replied, pleased to have someone so squarely in his corner. Then, he held his arm aloft, sweeping his hand dramatically through the air. âRock the Rock,â he said, sounding like one of those fellows who does voiceover work for movie trailers. âComing to the Isle of Man, June fifteenthâ¦â
Both Ben and the camper appeared suitably impressed.
âYou know, I may actually book another flight here from bonnie Scotland
